Just got a call on my cell, saying the same thing as Jonathan - IRS was filing a lawsuit - I recall hearing on the news they will always send official mail if that was true.

I received a call at home then on my cell phone stating that this was the IRS and they were filing a law suit. My taxes are always paid up to date, so this is definitely a scam.

Number just called me, left me a Robo-message and claimed to be a final notice from the IRS. Indicating thatI am being sued by the IRS. Knowing that I pay my taxes, I google this number, found these complaints and decided to add mine. I guess these guys are taking the scam up a notch. I hope they are caught and prosecuted.

Richard7/24/2014 Richard7/24/2014 I am on holiday in FRANCE Male caller with an Indian accent, could hear the call center in the background. He stated he was from Microsoft Windows and I had a problem with my Windows computer. He simply wanted access to my computer in order to defraud me of money by blackmailing me for release of the machine or stealing banking or other data from it. This was a known (and repeated) international scam. It was the third call in a fortnight (one routed through Kazakhstan and two through the US. I reported it to the police (again) and was told that these 'scammers' sell phone numbers onto other 'scammers' to try their luck. Apparently they buy or rent blocks of phone numbers to hide their identities and locations (but the accents give them away). I am told that if someone is dumb enough to buy into their story and access is given to their Windows based computer they will lose all private data and be locked out. Then they will only release the machine back to you for a payment. I informed the caller I knew, thanked them for the phone number details, I was passing it onto the fraud department of the police at which point he became very abusive . The one routed through Kazakhstan threatened to blow me up (which momentarily upset my wife) as explained to the police. Provided numbers are passed onto crime intelligence at least they will have an opportunity to turn off the block of landline numbers and maybe prevent someone being robbed of their hard earned money or intimidated by these crooks.
