Caller claims to be with the local police/sherif department. When advised the party requested wasn't in, there were several questions of when would that party be in, if they had a cell phone, etc. When advised they probably needed to call back, more questions of specific time. Then when I questioned him again about his name, agency represented, the person on the line got quiet and I soon heard a dial tone. Appeared to be one of the scams that has been reported against the elderly. BEWARE!

I received a text message from 706-623-7301 around noon on Sun 5 Oct 2014. The sender was pretending to be somebody else. I responded as though I were chatting with that person - until 12:46 pm Sun 5 Oct 2014. The person - in the role of the one who I thought was texting me - requested that I give my friend's niece some money. I was a bit suspicious, but followed through with the conversation. The interesting thing is that the area code, 706, was where my friend was currently located. Thus it seemed possible that he could have indeed sent the text (from somebody else's phone). The next day, when I saw the person who I had thought was sending the messages, I showed him the series of messages. As I had suspected, he had not sent them. I do believe his niece herself was using something like TextNow.com.

I have gotten probably well over 20 phone calls in the last month or 2...never actually answered the phone until the other day. They had said I had a remaining balance from an energy bill. I had call the energy company n asked about it and they had said I had no remaining balance from them and the "debt company" that had been calling me was a scam. So I had called the "debt company" back telling them what the energy place had said and they had asked me if I had proff showing I had no remaining balance n I said no. Then I asked the lady if it was a scam, she had told me no they are trying to help me pay my debt off. She then asked me if I could send them a letter showing I didn't have a remaining balance and I had said no but I'm sure you can do that yourself. She wasn't to happy knowing that I knew it was fake. The very beginning of the phone call they had asked me where I worked at, who I banked with and if I had and children under the age of 18. I knew from the very beginning it was a scam
