Contact a local, non-profit housing agecy if you need assistance. NOT someone who calls you, who's NOT your lender.

After further consideration, I'm thinking this is a scam and I'm not going to send them anything. There is no website for "Help For Homes", their toll-free phone system sounds "off" to me and I can't reach anyone when I call. The girl that initially contacted me gave me her phone extension but when I try to call it, I get a general voicemail box that says "client relations". When I try to get an operator, the call isn't answered, it goes to the same "client relations" voicemail box. Something isn't right here so I would strongly urge others not to fall for this as it appears to be a scam.

As a follow-up, I'm about to fax my documents to them but after reading these posts, I'm having a serious second thought. With the amount of information I've given them, someone could easily commit ID fraud, empty what's left of my bank account or do other serious harm to my credit or bank accounts. I've decided not to fax the paperwork but instead do some more investigating.

I'm told by the person calling me, they are a non-profit called "Help For Home" designed to assist homeowners with keeping their house out of foreclosure. When I call the number back, the recording sounds rather bland and non-nondescript.

I received a call from this number at my job. I did not answer because I have been receiving numeroius of calls from 1-800, 888, 866 and 877 numbers that I did not recognized. Some I did answered, but they were either trying to sell something, mortgage modification company or debt relief. The 888-232-8572 number is the first time I saw this on my caller ID. Since I did not recognize it, I google it and this is the website I was routed to. I read one of the comments stating that they are Hope Foundation helping to modify their mortgage. I knew then they were scam artists.

They offered to restructure my mtg. I thought they were The Hope Foundation. To make a long story short. I was told I was approved, what my payments would be with fixed interest rate. They said someone would be coming to my home and that I needed a photo ID, the original mortgage company documents and the first payment. I said hold up a moment. You are telling me that they want the first payment. I told this individual I would prefer to make my payments directly to the mortgage company. I asked this individual who did they talk to at my mortgage company. They could not tell me. I told them, I did not like what I am hearing. I schedule the appt. After getting off the phone with them, I contacted my mtg co to find out if they were working with a third party on modification; they said no. I contacted The Hope Foundation and reported them as a SCAM. She said an agent might be in touch with me and wanted to know if I objected to that. I told her no, not at all. I will keep you posted.
